"New Age" Groups

"The difficulty lies, not in the new ideas, but in escaping from the old ones.."

John Maynard Keynes.

Many people refer to the term "New Age" groups. What does this mean ? It has been suggested by some that as people often appear to go through periods, so too does society. These periods not only relate to societies in a national sense eg. the principally English "Industrial Revolution" and the changes that made to people's spiritual/material lives, but also in the planetary sense. These planetary periods are often named eg. the "bronze" age.

Now just as this name is arbitrary so too do others arbitrarily name planetary periods of time. Those interested in astrology for instance name each 2,000 year period after an astrological sign. The theory being that the planet as a whole, will be more influenced by the particular planetary influence associated with that sign for that period. The last 2,000 years has been associated with PISCES the water sign. We are currently entering the astrological sign called Aquarius. That is why there is so much talk about the New Age, the "Age of Aquarius".

A new age suggests to many that there can be a new way of the planet, as a whole, to look at it's values. This is partly why there are thousands of New Age groups springing up all over the world. Many people feel it is time for people to re-assess their values. Some groups working towards real changes in society for the better are groups such as "Greenies" movements, anti-apartied, and "peace" movements.
